Making Him Watch

We returned to the hotel. Peter had showered, and gotten dressed again. We met him in the hotel bar.

I told my husband that he was going to accompany us to a suite I’d rented, and under no circumstances was he to do anything but watch. He was still sweating bullets, and agreed with a nod.

I had money. I’d met Jacob when we were both in college. I was getting my bachelor’s in Political Science, while Jacob was getting his undergraduate in Medicine. We fell in love.

He was bright, but hadn’t secured the scholarships he’d need to cover med school. By that point, we’d gotten engaged. I supported him through his years of study, his internship, all of it. If we separated, he’d wind up with nothing. He knew it, I knew it. So at this point, he was eager to find any solution that wouldn’t end in divorce. I didn’t blame him.

The wounds were fresh, but… I still cared for him. There was tenderness, there. We could probably recuperate from this. It depended on how the night went, honestly.
